Avoid Getting A Flat Tire This September With These Tire Tips From King VW | Gaithersburg, MD

Summer has officially come to a close and with the changing of the seasons comes a dramatic shift in weather! With temperature varying it’s a good idea to check up on your tires PSI! Properly inflated tires can make your tires last longer, can improve handling and control, reduce the risk of accidents and blowouts, improve your fuel economy and even reduce your carbon footprint! So take a look at our tire tips below and make sure your PSI is up to standard! Not into DIY? Schedule your service appointment at our Volkswagen Service Center and let our certified technicians take care of your ride! What’s the right PSI level? The recommended PSI for your vehicle’s tires is determined by the vehicle’s manufacturer and the recommended tire size. You can find this information in your owner’s manual or on the placard inside of the door edge, glove box door, or fuel door. In most newer vehicles, your vehicle will alert you when your vehicle’s tires fall below the recommended PSI Do NOT use the max PSI that is printed on the tire sidewall. The pressure amount on the tire is normally the maximum allowed pressure. Over-inflation can lead to poor handling and comfort, overheating, and blowouts. How to properly inflate your tires. If you do not have air at home, most gas stations have an air pump for you to use. Remove dust caps from the tires’ valve stems. Insert your tire gauge into the tire valve and leave it in for a few seconds When you remove it, the gauge will provide a PSI reading If the tire gauge’s recorded reading is higher than the manufacturer-recommended rating, press the gauge tip on the valve stem until you hear air leak out. Check the tire pressure again. If the reading is lower than recommended, you will need to fill the tire with air. When filling the tire, firmly press the air-hose into the valve, as you did with the tire - gauge When you think you’ve added or let out enough air, check the pressure a few times with the gauge. Return the valve dust caps.

Fall DIY Service For Your VW! | Gaithersburg, MD

September is almost here, which means Fall is not too far behind! Fall is the perfect season for automotive anything! Meaning, if you’re looking to slip behind the wheel of a new vehicle now is a perfect time! With brand new 2022 models hitting the lot and tons of amazing offers coming your way, King VW is the place to be this fall. However, fall is also a really important time for vehicle owners to get their vehicle in tip-top shape for the winter months ahead. If you’re not into the whole DIY stuff, we totally get it, that’s why we're here to do the hard work for you! All you have to do is schedule a service appointment and drop off your vehicle! But for those of you who like getting your hands a little dirty, this week we have a ‘ready for winter’ checklist to help get you started on your fall maintenance...or at least have you schedule an appointment to get these services done! So take a peek below and be sure to stop into King VW this month for all of your fall maintenance needs! Battery Power: Making sure your battery is fresh is important. The experts say you should change your battery every 3 years, though you could get away with 5 depending on how much you drive...If you’re thinking to yourself “I can’t remember the last time I changed my battery,” it might be time to do so. Make sure the cables are not loose. With the engine off, see if the cables can slip free from the nodes. Don’t yank, but be firm. Check for corrosion, a white powder that forms around the nodes or clamps of your battery. You can clean this off using baking soda, water, and a toothbrush. Fill your Fluids: It might cost you a little bit more but invest in a “winter blend” type of windshield wiper fluid. These tend to have more alcohol in them and less water so the chance of freezing is less. If your windshield washer fluid tank hasn't been flushed in a few years then it could use it! Be sure not to mix colors; most antifreeze is green, blue, or yellow, but be sure not to mix colors. Checking your vehicle's oil is important. If you have not had an oil change in a long time, it might be time for one. Additional Preventative Measures: Buy an emergency kit with cables, a first aid kit, flares, a battery-powered air compressor, and other things that can prevent a minor inconvenience from becoming a major problem. Check the clarity of all your lights. Keeping the gas tank at half-filled can help prevent a fuel line freeze; so can that fuel-line antifreeze mentioned earlier. Tire pressure is important in the snow, be sure that your vehicle’s tires are to the correct PSI. Schedule Your Fall Service! >> https://www.vwking.com/vwservicescheduler.aspx

4 Simple Tips To Make Your VW Sparkle Like New! | Gaithersburg, MD

Spring has sprung and it is officially time to start your spring cleaning if you have not done so yourself yet. Once you’ve taken the time to clean out your interior, it’s time to show your exterior some love. Plus, when your car is looking fresh, you’re feeling fresh! But many of us don’t know that there are actually proper steps that you need to take in order to wash your vehicle properly - and if you don’t you could cause some serious damage to your car’s exterior. So take a few minutes to check out our helpful tips below and get ready to roll up your sleeves because we are washin’ away winter and scrubbing our way into spring! Step 1: Fill a clean bucket with water and soap, choose a car shampoo that won’t strip your vehicle’s wax, and provide lubrication for grimy particles. *If you notice swirl marks when you wash your car, try filling two buckets, one with soap and one without. Before you dunk your sponge for more soap, dunk it into the bucket of clean, non-soapy water. This is cleaning your sponge of the dirt and grime that you just took off your car and will help prevent swirl marks.* Step 2: Rinse your car, make sure you get those pesky, hard-to-reach spots too. This will get rid of loose dirt and grime and ultimately make washing your car a little less of a hassle. When rinsing your vehicle, wash top to bottom as opposed to front to back. Suds up your car, rinse, and repeat. Instead of a sponge, wash mitts are a great option. For pesky spots, like grime or bugs, try a spot cleaner that will help remove the stuck-on mess. Step 3: Drying your vehicle after washing is extremely important, it makes all your hard work worth it. Using a clean microfiber cloth, dry windows and mirrors first, then move to bigger surfaces like your hood, doors, and trunk. Don’t forget door jams or any hard-to-reach spots. Lastly, dry your wheels and tires. Step 4: A spray wax or sealant can help rejuvenate the shine on your vehicle. As always, if you find yourself in need of assistance for any repairs or service for your VW, be sure to head over to our website to check out our service specials so you can save big on your service - AND don’t forget to schedule your appointment so you can skip the line later, right here at King VW! Yes, it’s car care month, and your friends here at King Volkswagen want to help you check off some of your spring cleaning to-do list. A simple, but important step is getting your VW organized after the long winter season. We’d be lying if we said you were the only driver that used your car as a closet on wheels. If you find you need your VW serviced before hitting the road, just schedule your service appointment now! Get An Organizer There are many products that can help keep your trunk organized. The key is knowing what will work best for your lifestyle and having a designated spot for items. Shower caddies work wonders when it comes to storing a few small things or fluids for your vehicle. Bigger organizers can be utilized to store bigger items and/ or keep them from rolling around in your trunk. Keep It Out Of Your Trunk Don’t get in the habit of tossing things back there, keep unnecessary items out of your trunk in the first place. Items like your purse, reusable shopping bags, or other small items can be kept up front for easy accessibility. Keeping these items out of your trunk will keep them from spilling over or piling up. Contain The Mess Once your trunk is organized, try to maintain it. An organized trunk can guarantee that you’ll avoid spills, damage, and potential injury. Keep tie-down straps, pets, and cargo barriers in your trunk for those times when you need to secure something a little tighter or your pet is along for the road trip too. Must-Haves For Your Car While you are organizing, it is important to keep your vehicle equipped with a few certain things. Pen and pad of paper Cell phone charger Vehicle’s owner manual, proof of insurance, and a copy of your registration. First aid kit Jacket, hat, gloves, and a blanket Spare tire and jack, and jumper cables Have you had your eyes on a new Volkswagen? After a long snowy winter, your Nissan is probably in need of some service. So where to start? Great question - As always, we’re here to help! Below you will find five spring maintenances that are DIY friendly and a must for all drivers. If you find you need assistance with any or all of your spring maintenance, leave it to our professionals! Just schedule a service appointment online now, and check out our service specials page to see how you can save big! Give Your Vehicle A Good Wash Winter can be tough on your vehicle’s exterior. Freezing temperatures and salt from the road can do real damage to your paint job, so make sure to start the season with a car wash. If you choose to go to a car wash, go for the premium wash to get all the nooks and crannies and a deep clean after months of harsh road conditions. If you do it yourself, make sure to add baking soda to the wash water if your car has a strong salt buildup. This will help neutralize the salt and save your paint job. Tire Check When it looks like the snow is finally done falling, be sure to switch from your snow tires to your all-season tires. Once you have your tires back on, be sure to grab your owners manual to find the Manufacturer recommended air pressure. Not only is this important for alignment, but also can give you better gas mileage and save your money at the tank! Make sure your tires are rotated regularly and don’t wait until you have a visible flat to fill them up. Check your tires for worn tread and make sure to replace your tires when the treading becomes too worn. If you’re not sure if you need new tires, use the penny test to determine! Battery Check After a long brutal winter, you’re going to want to check your battery’s life. Stop by the dealership for a battery test to see the life of your car’s battery. If your battery is getting weak, you can prevent future problems by replacing it before it stops working. If you find you’re in need of a new battery, be sure to check out our service offers page to see if you can take advantage of any battery offers! Replace Wiper Blades and Fluids Snow, sleet, and ice can cause wear on your windshield wipers - and it’s no secret how dirty your windows get with slush getting kicked up at you on the road. This means spring is the perfect time to get new wiper blades and top off your windshield wiper fluid levels for all the spring rain coming your way very soon. New wiper blades are inexpensive and simple to replace, so you won’t even need to pay someone to do it for you. However, our team of experts is always here to help you if needed! Oil Change Your vehicle works hard to get you where you need to go, especially during the winter months. That’s why spring is the perfect time to give your care the TLC/pick-me-up your vehicle needs. Regular oil changes can make all the difference in making sure your car has a long, healthy life. Whether your vehicle needs a regular oil change or synthetic oil change, our team is here to assist you! Be sure to check out our service offers page to see what offers are available to you! If you will be performing the oil change on your own, be sure to follow the manufacturer’s suggestions for oil change intervals and oil viscosity, and make sure to change the oil filter as well. 4 Easy Ways To Organize Your VW! | Gaithersburg, MD

It’s a new year, which means we are trying to do better than the year before. And a great way to keep your resolutions to start with small things. One simple resolution you can start with is taking better care of your vehicle! We’ve talked many times about servicing your vehicle regularly, but this week we are going to talk about something a little different! We know life gets crazy and even though it feels like you just cleaned out your car last week, it’s actually been months and it’s a mess! It’s okay, it happens to the best of us. That’s why this week we are here to help you get your car sparkly clean and organized in only four simple steps! So take a peek at our helpful hints below, and if you’re just not feeling like you want to maintain your vehicle, we totally understand and want to help! Just check out our maintenance packages for your Volkswagen and schedule an appointment today! Step 1: Sort and clean Take everything out of the car, including car seats, music, and miscellaneous items stored in the glove box and door pockets. Don't forget the trunk and cargo area! Organize the rest of the items into three piles: stuff you use all the time, things you use occasionally, and items you might need in an emergency. Whatever doesn't fall into these categories should be stored in your home or garage. Step 2: Analyze Ask yourself, "How do I use my car?" Are you the taxi driver? Maybe you’re a parent with two toddlers in car seats or a salesman who travels with a trunkload of samples. Whatever it is, figure it out. Step 3: Prioritize Depending upon your needs, go through your three piles and prioritize the most important items in each group And just like seasonal clothes in a closet, many items such as ice scrapers and emergency kits should be stored back in your vehicle Step 4: Contain your needs Loose objects in the car lead to disorganization and mess. In the event of a sudden stop or a crash, they can also damage your car or, worse, injure your occupants. Get yourself a good organizer to keep all of your items concise and easy to access.
