Car Seat Do’s Just For You! | Gaithersburg, MD

It’s no question that all parents understand the importance of a car seat. But as car seats become more and more advanced the harder they are to understand, which leads to improper installations and other potentially harmful mistakes. This week we want to make sure that your little bundles of joys are safely secured in their seats to help give you the peace of mind you need to get from point A to point B! So this week are focusing on the DOs when dealing with a car seat. So take a look at our tips below and if you have any questions we will do our best to help answer them. And when installing or turning your child to front-facing, be sure to check out your seat’s instructions and your vehicle’s owners manual to see what they suggest. King Volkswagen's Car Seat Do’s: Make sure the harness-retainer clip is level with your child’s armpits. If they are in the wrong place, the straps could end up sliding off. Take your car-seat to a local inspection site so a professional can ensure the installation is correct. Choose a car-seat with a five-point harness. If you have a forward-facing seat, place the harness straps on your child’s shoulders to ensure the most protection in the event of a collision. If your child has outgrown a car-seat, try using a high-back booster seat. Studies have shown these are safer than backless ones in the event of side-impact collisions. Tighten the harness straps so they are tight enough for you to only fit one finger underneath. Safety-belts should be tightened enough so the seat is only able to wiggle less than one inch from side to side.

Second, you need a list of fun activities that will help pass the time and miles with ease. If you’re looking to upgrade your ride to a new Volkswagen, be sure to start your search online, or stop into King Volkswagen for a test drive today! Combat boredom by making your own “travel binder.” Fill it with coloring pages, word searches, bingo games, etc, that way the kids will be entertained with a handful of different activities. Another way to fight boredom is technology, whether it be a learning toy, an iPad to watch movies or play games, an iPod to listen to music, or even an audible book! Bring lots of snacks! Kids get hungry when they get bored which can easily turn into them becoming hangry/cranky. That’s the last thing you want to deal with on a long trip, so pack a good mix of healthy snacks and a couple of their favorite treats for when they get really antsy! Another fun activity is having a countdown. Kids love countdowns of any kind, so turn it into a game! Give them a time limit and an activity, remind them of how much time they have left, and watched them focus on finishing in time! This is perfect because it keeps them entertained, it lets them know how much longer till we are there, and it keeps your drive easy! For when all else fails to prepare a “Are we there yet bag? When you’re coming up on a near breakdown pull out the bag and tell them if they behave they get to pick a prize out of it! This will easily buy you another half hour and keep your children excited and entertained with what they might get next Find Your Dream Ride Here!

Travel Tips For You & Your Pup! | Gaithersburg, MD

Spring is on the way and we’re confident that you’ve probably been planning out your spring getaway. If you’re like me, you’re probably feeling guilty about having to leave your furry friend at home. Well, don’t stress because we have a solution for you! This week we have some tips and tricks that are sure to help you and your pup have a smooth road trip! But before you hit the road for some fun in the sun, be sure to schedule a service appointment to ensure you don’t run into any issues down the road! Looking to save big on service? Be sure to check out our service specials today! Before you leave to make sure to pack: Lead, Collar, Leash, and ID tag: The last thing you want to happen is your dog to getaway in a place he doesn’t know, but be prepared for the worst. Make sure you have everything you’ll need to keep your dog from escaping, and everything you’ll need in case they do. Food, water, bowls: Bring more than you think! The last thing you want to do on vacation is run to the grocery store to find dog food. Tell yourself the same thing you did when you overpacked clothes...YOU MIGHT NEED IT! Blankets and baggies: Bring blankets for bedding, and warmth. Bring waste disposable bags for parking lot rest stops (You wouldn’t want to accidentally step in that, would you?) Old washcloths: For those pups that get down in the dirt, don’t stress about your car seats, just bring washcloths to clean off messy paws Crates and restraints: Some dogs love the car! They jump right in, stick their head out the window, and let their ears fly! But unfortunately, that’s not a good idea. Even if your dog is usually a happy traveler, it isn’t safe for them to roam freely throughout the car, in the case of an accident. The crate isn’t going to work for your dog? Try this out! A harness that is fastened to a seat safety belt It provides the dog some freedom but restrains the dog in an accident. Be sure to buy a harness that’s specifically designed to be used with safety belts. Break time is important: You might be down to take on a long drive little to no breaks but your dog isn’t. Plan on taking frequent stops like you would if you were traveling with a small child. Letting your dog out for potty breaks and to run around will burn off some pent-up energy, making you and your dogs ride my easier! Check with the vet: If this is your dog’s first trip you might want to talk to your vet and see if there is any medication that can help with motion sickness and anxiety. Schedule Service Today!
