It might be hard to believe, but winter is right around the corner, and before the snow starts falling we want to help you get your Volkswagen prepared for the months ahead. That’s why this week’s blog is all about the essential items you should have in your car before you hit the road this winter! Think of it as a winter emergency kit in case you find yourself broken-down, in an accident, or in need of some minor medical assistance. Take a peek below at our 12 essentials and if you find you’re in need of service or repairs for your VW, give us a call or schedule your appointment online today! Must-Have Winter Accessories: Ice scraper and snow brush With winter right around the corner, it’s crucial to have a sturdy ice scraper and snow brush in your vehicle. Whether you’re leaving work, the mall, the grocery store, etc, snow can obstruct your view, and just using your wipers to clear your view can be dangerous for other drivers when the snow flies off at them. Small/Collapsible shovel Keeping a small or collapsible shovel in your truck can be a lifesaver if you find your vehicle stuck in the snow or if you have to clear a path to drive Gloves, hats, scarves, etc. You have the snow brush and shovel, but now you need to actually use them. Having extra gloves will be a lifesaver when you have to brush off your vehicle, pump gas, or even change a tire! Blanket Doesn’t everybody have extra blankets lying around at home? Just me? Well, if you have an extra blanket, throw it in your trunk in case you find yourself in an accident having to stand outside, or experience a breakdown in colder temperatures. Emergency flares or reflectors Finding yourself stuck in the snow? Ensure other vehicles can see you with emergency flares or reflectors Rock salt Stuck in the snow? Did ice form around your tires? Gain traction with rock salt, sand, or kitty litter! Spread the material near your tires and in your car’s path to get out of a slippery situation. First aid kit This is an all-year-round necessity, but it’s always good to replenish what you need in your first aid kit Whether your passenger has a small cut or you’re in an accident and need to be bandaged up, a first aid kit is crucial to this list Extra windshield washer fluid Make sure your windshield washer fluid has antifreeze components to prevent it from freezing. Clearing your windshield with fluid will improve visibility in a winter storm. Flashlight We all know it gets dark very early during the winter months. Having a flashlight in your trunk is always a good idea. Whether you need it for maintenance purposes or even to feel safer when walking to and from your vehicle. Jumper cables Cold weather can affect a car’s battery. You can’t start your car if the battery’s dead, which means you won’t be able to use the car’s heater for warmth. Waiting for a jump start in the cold is not fun. You won’t have to wait as long if you have jumper cables with you. Cell phone charger It’s always important to keep your phone charged before hitting the road but with maps, music, and more, your battery can die quickly Keep your phone charged up in case you need to make a call for assistance or need your maps for directions Water and non-perishable snacks Breakdowns are never fun and sometimes happen in the worst place. This means if you find yourself stranded, waiting for a tow truck and it might be a while before you get help, having a snack to hold you over is always helpful Upgrade To A Brand New Volkswagen Today!

Fall is here and that means IT’S FOOTBALL SEASON!! There is only one thing that is almost as important as was watching the big game for fans, and that’s TAILGATING! Before the game, the cars pack into the parking lot and tailgate like crazy repping their team pride, playing games, and of course eating and drinking like the champs they’re hoping their team will be! Even though tailgating might look a little different this year, doesn’t mean you can’t still join in on the fun! Tailgating from home is the new best thing, and we’ve got tips to help you dominate! In order to be the king or queen of the tailgate, you have to transform your vehicle into a mobile gathering that will have all other tailgaters in awe. Are you ready to dominate the tailgate? Here are some ideas to make your vehicle the pre-game hot-spot! Basics: The basic must-haves for your tailgate are food, drinks, tables and chairs, coolers and ice, plastic ware, and utensils. One more must-have is the grill – not only to get barbeque, but it also comes in handy for when the season turns cool. Upgrades: If you’re really trying to take your tailgating up a few notches, you may consider bringing portable phone chargers, wireless speakers, and a portable satellite TV so that you and your guests can watch the pre-game action at the same time. Talk about cool points! Decor: What’s a tailgate without team pride! You need to make it clear who you’re there for, no if, and, or buts! Be sure to get those team decor paper plates and other fun decorations (Magnets, balloons, erasable chalk markers, team decals for your car, etc.) which can draw a crowd in for more fun! Location: The early bird gets the worm as they say, and it’s true! To ensure you find the perfect spot for your tailgate, arrive early to get first dibs on parking spaces. Sheltered spots to keep the sun, wind, and rain away are generally a wise choice! Find The Perfect VW For Your Tailgate!

Guys! Can you believe it’s already September? Before we know it the fall and winter months will be creeping in, and that means one thing! After a long summer of travel and adventures, you should give your ride the TLC it deserves with regular maintenance. However, this is the perfect opportunity for you to kickstart your fall service! It might be a little early, but the poor weather will be here before you know it! So get ahead with three essential end of summer services below! DIY approved for our customers that like to get their hands dirty, but our team is here for any assistance you might need! Just head over to our site and schedule your test drive today! Service To Complete… Inspection: The place to start is with an inspection. This is the best way to narrow down the service/ maintenance your vehicle needs most. This will include important checks like battery check, fluids, belts, hoses, lights, and more These are important to catch now because as temperatures fall, components can worsen Tire Tread Your tire tread is extremely important, especially during the upcoming winter months. If your tire tread is low or bald, you have no grip on slick and icy roads The proper tread depth should be at least 2/32” If you need a simple way to check your tire depth, utilize the penny test Penny Test How To: With Lincoln’s head facing downwards, place the penny into several grooves of a tire. If you can see the top of his head, your tread depth is worn too low and it’s time to replace your tires If you’re in heavy snow areas, you should invest in snow tires - which have proven to provide better traction than all-season tires. Keep an eye out for more than just tread depth. Look for intense light exposure, puncture holes, or anything thing else Windshield Wiper Maintenance Often overlooked, but the real MVP of winter driving, windshield wipers are extremely important all year round, especially during the winter months When snow, sleet, hail, etc. are falling at you, you need a good pair of wipers to keep your visibility clear Examine your blades for breaks, tears, streaking, etc. If you’ve had your wipers for more than 6 months, it’s a good idea to replace them If you get a lot of snow, looking into purchase wipers specifically for snow/winter weather Schedule Your Fall Service Today!
