Get Organized For Summer! | Gaithersburg, MD

Summer is here and that means your summer road trip is just around the corner! But if you’re like many of us, your vehicle is in no shape to be hitting the road, mostly because of the mess inside. Where are your passengers going to sit? How will you pack anything inside? Well lucky for you we have some helpful tips for getting your vehicle cleaned up and organized just in time for you to hit the road for some fun. Keeping your ride clean and organized doesn’t only look good but it makes your ride safer without things rolling around on the ground and creating a distraction. So where should you start? Easy! Check out all of our tips below, pull everything out, separate them into a keep and toss piles, and start your organizing! If you need a tune-up before you hit the road be sure to schedule a service appointment with us today and check out our service specials to ensure you save big! Step 1: Sort and clean Take everything out of the car, including car seats, music, and miscellaneous items stored in the glovebox and door pockets. Don't forget the trunk and cargo area! Organize the rest of the items into three piles: stuff you use all the time, things you use occasionally and items you might need in an emergency. Whatever doesn't fall into these categories should be stored in your home or garage. Step 2: Analyze Ask yourself, "How do I use my car?" Are you the taxi driver? Maybe you’re a parent with two toddlers in car seats or salesman who travels with a trunk load of samples. Whatever it is, figure it out. Step 3: Prioritize Depending upon your needs, go through your three piles and prioritize the most important items in each group And just like seasonal clothes in a closet, many items such as ice scrapers and emergency kits should be stored back into your vehicle Step 4: Contain your needs Loose objects in the car lead to disorganization and mess. In the event of a sudden stop or a crash, they can also damage your car or, worse, injure your occupants. Get yourself a good organizer to keep all of your items concise and easy to access. Don’t Let Winter Ruin Your Next Road Trip!

Just because winter weather is here, doesn't mean you can’t still get out and unleash your adventurous side, right? In fact, there is a lot you can get out and do, and even if you don’t love to travel in the snow, sometimes it’s the only way to get to your destination. When you live on the east coast you have to become accustomed to winter weather, even enjoy it at times. Plus there is no better time than now to get out and enjoy winter activities like skiing, snowing, snowshoeing, and so much more! So instead of fearing the snowy weather, learning to drive in winter will allow you to take on more adventures and have more confidence behind the wheel. Of course, we don’t recommend taking a road trip during a winter storm, but traveling long-distance in light snow doesn't have to be as scary as it made out to be. SO this week we want to give you some pointers to help you get up and get out to your next adventure! Check out our tips below! Tips: Don't count on technology to keep your car under control: Don't count on technology to keep your car under control, if you’re traveling in any snow we suggest slowing down! It might take a little longer to get to your destination, but there is a better chance of you making it there safe! Your anti-lock braking system is great for bringing your car to a smooth stop but there still needs to be enough road between you and the next vehicle to stop you in time. We suggest you leave extra space between you and other vehicles! Prep your vehicle for a winter road trip: Bring your vehicle in for a tune-up and let the mechanic know you’re planning on traveling long distance. Don’t be afraid to ask them to pay a little more attention to be sure everything is in tip-top shape Be sure to check the heater, defroster, brakes, lights, oil levels, and exhaust system. Make sure the condition of your tires is prestige Make sure the quality of your windshield wipers is good enough to see without a problem. This means no streaks, smears, skipping, etc. A car traveling in winter can't survive without antifreeze in the radiator; make sure all of your vehicles fluid levels are properly filled Planning before you hit the road: Keep an eye on the forecast for several days, if it is predicted there will be a storm we suggest rescheduling If you’re Planning on taking a trip that will take several days, plan to drive for a shorter amount of time. Top Car Seat Don’ts

Becoming a new parent is a very exciting time, it is also stressful. Let’s face it you’re learning as you go and it’s okay to make a mistake here and there, totally understandable. One place you don’t want to make a mistake is in the car. Too many parents aren’t properly strapping in their children and their child’s seats. New mommies and daddies, it’s not just you! Actually, moms that have been doing this for a while are also doing it wrong so don’t get upset! Instead, check out our hacks for the biggest car seat mistakes and never second guess if you are properly strapping your child in for a ride again! The child is turned face-forward too early: Babies must ride facing the rear until they are at least 1 year old and weigh 20 pounds, preferably longer! Keeping your baby rear-facing for as long as possible is the safest way for them to sit The seat isn't installed tightly enough: Lot’s of parents stress about making the seat belt too tight and hurting their baby An easy way to know if the beat is tight enough is to jiggle it in the area where the safety belt is pulled through, the chair should not move more than 1 inch in any direction. Harness straps are too loose. Again, parents stress about the tightness of the straps, but leaving them too loose is extremely dangerous, as the child could slip out or tip over during an abrupt stop The straps should be tightened so that slack can't be pinched between an adult's thumb and forefinger. Regardless if the child says it’s too tight, this is the correct way to strap them in Infant seat angled incorrectly It must be reclined just enough so the child doesn't flop forward, but no more than 45 degrees from vertical. If the child is positioned at more than that, they could be thrown out between the straps headfirst. Harness straps are in wrong slots: In the rear-facing position, straps should be in slots at or just below the shoulder. In forward-facing position, straps should come through the uppermost slots (unless a particular car seat instructions specify otherwise). It is always important to READ the car seat direction because every seat is different! Harness retainer clip is out of place: 1. The clip should ALWAYS be at the child's armpit level! The locking clip is out of place: If needed, it should be positioned no more than an inch from the safety-belt latch. The safety belt isn't in locked mode: Check vehicle's owner manual to determine what type of belts you have. Follow directions regarding how they must be used with a child-safety restraint. Four Q’s To Ask When Purchasing A New Vehicle! Category

Are you on the exciting journey of finding a brand new vehicle for you? Well as much as this time is exciting it is also stressful, and we understand that! That’s why this week we want to give you a handful of helpful tips and Q’s to ask before you sign that dotted line! Let’s face it, buying or leasing a vehicle is a big commitment, and you want to be sure that before you get yourself into a contract you know exactly what you’re signing up for. Ask questions! Any and every question that you have, make sure to ask it, regardless if you think it a “stupid” one! But what if you don’t know much about cars? Don’t stress it, we’ve got your back and we have got all the Q’s you should asking the dealership! Check them out below! What other fees will I be charged? The price of the car is one thing but you will also have to pay taxes,  registry costs, tire recycling fees, and a documentation fee. If there are any additional costs be sure to ask about them. Make sure you know what you're paying for sooner than later! How much is your documentation fee? All car dealers charge a documentation fee, but not all dealership prices are the same. Do some research and see what your state Doc fee is capped at. Are there any dealer-installed options on the car? Most cars come with options installed at the factory when the car is built. But sometimes the dealer adds items as a way to boost profit. You want to know about any add-ons well in advance, ideally when you're soliciting a price quote. Know that there's a markup on them and negotiate accordingly. How many miles are on the car? Even if you are buying a new vehicle you might find the mileage is higher than you were expecting. If there are more than about 300 miles on the car, you need to negotiate a lower price. Find your perfect vehicle here!
