MotorTrend’s spy photographer spotted Volkswagen taking their new three-row crossover out for a test spin in California. Although it was wearing a different badge, it distinctly resembled the VW Crossblue concept which debuted at the Detroit Auto Show.

All the details have not yet been confirmed, however MotorTrend speculates it will garner the Passat’s 3.6L V6 Engine and may even offer a 2.0L Turbo 4-Cylinder Engine or a hybrid version. The crossover will also most likely be available with front and all wheel drive.

What we do know, however, is that the vehicle’s exterior will feature a flat and square front end with silver roof rails. It will sit atop the VW MQB platform and fit seven. The interior will feature a sunroof and driver assistance technologies. MotorTrend expects this three-row to be Volkswagen’s most expensive vehicle yet, reaching $50,000.

The name has not yet been revealed, but we can expect to hear more details, as well as details on other new Volkswagen crossovers like the CrossBlue Coupe and Cross Coupe GTE, and the new Tiguan.

Keep up with our blog to get the latest on these upcoming vehicles!

The March 2016 sales results were announced by Volkswagen of America, Inc. (VWoA) last week. A total of 26,914 vehicles were sold over the course of the month, with the Tiguan leading the way, experiencing its best March ever with a 53 percent increase of 3,519 vehicles.

Volkswagen is remaining positive for the rest of the year, citing retail business has improved at their individual dealerships. “We are pleased with the continued strong performance of the Tiguan,” said Mark McNabb, chief operating officer, Volkswagen of America. “While overall sales saw a decline for the month, Volkswagen dealers improved in terms of retail business.”

March was an important month for Volkswagen, as it marked the U.S. debut of the All-Wheel Drive Golf Alltrack, which is based on the Golf SportWagen but includes 4MOTION® All-Wheel Drive. The Golf Alltrack is scheduled to go on sale as a 2017 model in the fall.

Earlier this week, we brought you the first half of the “10 Most Important Spring Car Cleaning Tips” by Sandy Baker at Love to Know. Spring is on its way, and King Volkswagen wants to help you get a head start on spring cleaning your car. Take a look at the next five tips below.

  1. Exterior: Wash the exterior body of the car thoroughly in order to remove the winter grime from the cracks and edges of your vehicle using a soft towel and mild detergent.
  2. Wheels: Give your wheels some love after a rough winter by removing and washing hubcaps and scrubbing the tires and wheel wells. Also, use this time to check your tire pressure and tighten up loose lug nuts to prevent a future incident.
  3. Under the Hood: Leaves, debris, and dirt can get trapped in the engine area. Most of the times, wiping down the edges should do the trick, but if anything is caught in an unreachable place, you should consider having your engine professionally cleaned.
  4. Waxing: Wax the exterior of your vehicle out of direct sunlight, using a spray or liquid wax to achieve the best results. Test out the wax on a small, hidden spot on the car to make sure it works correctly.
  5. Wipers: Vehicles usually need a new set of windshield wipers after an especially harsh winter. Prepare for all those spring showers with new, properly working windshield wipers!

These ten things will only take you about an afternoon to complete, but the results will last well into the summer months! Springtime is also a good time to get routine maintenance and tune-ups done. Love to Know also suggests these maintenance considerations:

  • Oil Change
  • Engine Tune-Ups (includes having the belts checked)
  • Test Air Conditioning
  • Check Lighting Systems
  • Tire Replacement

Bring your freshly cleaned vehicle down to King Volkswagen and head over to our Service Department, where we can help you get your vehicle in shape for summer!

Read the first five on this blog entry, and look out for the next five on an upcoming blog!

  1. Carpeting and Upholstery: Start with the simple task of cleaning up your interior carpeting upholstery by wiping down the seats with a damp towel. Next, use a carpet-cleaning machine to rid your car of any salt, mud, or dirt.
  2. Console: Wash the console and clean out cup holders while avoiding getting any electrical connections wet.
  3. Organize: Get rid of any of the trash or excess stuff in the compartments of your car, then clean out the compartments.
  4. Windows and Mirrors: Clean the inside and outside of the mirrors using a window cleaner and finish by shining them with a dry towel.
  5. Trunk: Check the truck of the vehicle by getting rid of any trash or excess stuff that was stored during the winter. Also use this time to check the spare tire and emergency kit. Vacuum the trunk out as well.

King Volkswagen knows you love our wide selection of new and certified pre-owned vehicles, but with Volkswagen’s rich history, it’s possible you may be considering purchasing a classic car. In fact, you might want to. Since 2005, classic car collecting has beat real estate and stock market in valuation, making it one of the best ways to invest your money. Bodie Stroud, star of American Restoration and classic car designer for celebrities like Johnny Depp, gives us his best ten tips for buying a classic car.

  • Be Patient:  “That’s why I always say to just try and be patient, really look for everything and don’t be afraid to pass on a car. Don’t feel like you have to buy the first one you see. Because that’s what I used to do: ‘Oh my god, I want that car!’ You can’t believe the price. But then, after you see what you get, you can believe the price.”
  • Find Out What’s Hot: “Buying classic cars is kind of like real estate. You’ve got a certain range of car years that will go up in value, and the next [model] year they’re completely down. So if you have the money, you want to buy them when they’re down. Find the best deal— the best model you can find in the best shape you can find, whether it’s a matching numbers car or not.”
  • American or European: Stroud says that the basic rule is that European cars are generally worth more, but they also cost more and are harder to replace parts. American cars are still worth investing in, however their valuation may take longer.
  • Is Matching Important?: “People aren’t caring as much about matching numbers [where the stamped serial numbers of the engine, frame and gearbox all match the last six digits of the car’s VIN]. It’s still going to be important in some cases, but it’s more important to get a car that’s in good shape than a car with matching numbers that’s rotted out.”
  • Be Thorough: It’s important to take the time to ask questions and be thorough in the car buying process. Don’t rely on pictures. Make sure to ask lots of questions such as how many owners the car has had, what happened to the original motors, how many miles it has on it, etc.
  • Pictures are Important: Always try to see the car in person before you buy it, but if you absolutely can’t, make sure you get plenty of visual proof and high quality pictures.
  • Pay Attention to the Gaps: Good gaps are representative of a good car, and will cost you less money in the end. Watch out for even panel gaps through the entire car including interior, hood, and trunk lines.
  • Drive It: This one is obvious. Pay attention to how the car sounds.
  • Look Out for Body Rot: Choose a car with the least amount of body rot, especially under the bottom of the car, where rust is most prevalent.
  • Where Should You Buy?: “Arizona, Bakersfield, California, Las Vegas: Any desert car is what I look for. If it’s a native car from one of those areas, you’re much less likely to have excessive body rot.”

Volkswagen of America, Inc. unveiled the U.S. version of the All-Wheel-Drive Golf Alltrack, which is based on the Golf Sportwagen. This car has experienced widespread success due to its ability to appeal to people who want the luxury of an SUV but the sportiness of a car.

The Golf Alltrack shares the Golf SportWagen’s 1.8-L Four-Cylinder TSI® Engine and Six-Speed DSG® Automatic Transmission. But what really sets it apart is the 4MOTION® All-Wheel-Drive system. It’s also received additional upgrades such as unique bumpers, wheel wells and side sills which offer off-road protection and a front fascia that includes foglights and a honeycomb grille, all of which add to the Golf Alltrack’s overall more rugged appearance. Additional features include new leatherette seating surfaces, rearview camera, and VW Car-Net® App-Connect. It also offers a “Off-Road Mode” selection that optimizes traction and control during off-road adventures.

“We heard from dealers and customers that they wanted to see a Golf SportWagen with the all-terrain capability that comes from an all-wheel drive system,” said Joerg Sommer, Vice President, Product Marketing and Strategy of Volkswagen of America, Inc. “We are excited to introduce the Golf Alltrack to meet the active lifestyle needs of our customers.”

The 2017 Golf Alltrack will go on sale during the Fall as a 2017 model.

Volkswagen has announced its dedication to the industry-wide effort to make Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB) a standard feature on all new automobiles by September 1st of 2022. This new effort was started through a collaboration between the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) and it has now received the support of more than 20 automakers including Volkswagen. As a result, this new standard will be put into effect at least three years earlier than it would have without such a wide amount of support.

“It’s an exciting time for vehicle safety. By proactively making emergency braking systems standard equipment on their vehicles, these 20 automakers will help prevent thousands of crashes and save lives,” said U.S. Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx. “It’s a win for safety and a win for consumers.”

It is estimated that the time saved through this mass-collaboration effort will prevent an estimated 28,000 crashes and 12,000 injuries thanks to the technology of AEB. This system works to help prevent crashes before they happen by using cameras, lasers, and radar to monitor the activity around the vehicle and detect when a crash is about to happen. The system then has the ability to automatically apply the brakes to prevent the crash if the driver does not react in time to prevent it themselves.

Along with Volkswagen, the other automakers that have joined in this effort include Audi, BMW, FCA US LLC, Ford, General Motors, Honda, Hyundai, Jaguar Land Rover, Kia, Maserati, Mazda, Mercedes-Benz, Mitsubishi Motors, Nissan, Porsche, Subaru, Tesla Motors Inc., Toyota, and Volvo Car USA.
