Safe Winter Driving Tips
As the colder weather sets in, it is important that you take into consideration your driving style. When the roads are covered in slick ice and snow, it’s recommended to drive at a safe distance from other vehicles, travel only when you have to and always keep your lights on at all times. Below we’ve provided some tips that can make winter weather driving less stressful for you.
- Avoid Hills: It’s common that hills ice over fast so they should be avoided whenever possible until work crews are able to clear them of snow and slush and put down salt.
- Plan Ahead: In winter weather your vehicle won’t respond in the same way it does when you’re driving on dry roads. Start braking earlier, activate your turn signal early to give other drivers time to adjust and try not to alter your direction or speed suddenly.
- Slow Down: This tip seems like it would be common sense, but many drivers forget this one fact. Even if you’re comfortable with your vehicle in the snow, and you’re driving on what seems to be a clear highway, it’s nearly impossible to tell the difference between black ice and just wet roads.
Following these three simple tips will keep you, your passengers and all motorists around you much safer throughout the winter. If you have any questions or concerns about how your vehicle will handle the winter, come into King Volkswagen. We will be happy to help!

Volkswagen Announces New 2016 Beetle Dune
Back in the 60s Volkswagen Beetle fans and off-road enthusiasts alike were given a treat when Volkswagen released the Baja Bug, a vehicle that seamlessly combined both passions. This model came equipped with off-road tires that lifted the body of the Beetle higher, allowing owners to take it through dirt, sand, rocks, and more. This rugged modification allowed this model to travel to places that really were off the beaten path.
Now, the brand has decided to offer a bit of nostalgia with the release of the 2016 Beetle Dune. This model is expected to be released sometime next year and will be equipped with a body that is 0.4 inches higher and 0.6 inches wider than typical Beetle models. Additional features that are included on the 2016 Beetle Dune are a metallic golden paint scheme, 18” “Canyon” aluminum alloy wheels, black wheel arch extensions, a new fascia, a large rear spoiler and a rear diffuser. This model gets its power by a 1.8-liter gasoline four-cylinder engine and six-speed automatic transmission.
While this model will be eye-catching and fun to drive, the off-roading capabilities will be in look only, you will not be able to actually tackle any rocky terrain with this vehicle. Regardless, you will still love the way you look and feel when you head off down the street in this vehicle.

Volkswagen Wins the 2015 Red Bull Global Rallycross
We knew a win for Volkswagen was practically a given for the 2015 Red Bull Global Rallycross, but we weren’t sure who was going to cross the finish line first. Well, the results are in and Scott Speed is the official winner!
“I’m at a loss for words when it comes to describing how it feels to win the championship this season,” said Speed, soon after crossing the finish line in Vegas. “The whole Volkswagen Andretti Rallycross team has worked so hard for this result; I’m incredibly proud of this team and am so happy to have been able to bring home the top spot for them.”
Fellow teammate Tanner Foust congratulated his teammate and celebrated the fifth victory for the Volkswagen Andretti Rallycross team. This is only the second year of competition for the team and yet they grabbed the most wins out of any team.
“This was a challenging season, but a hard-earned one that the VARX team is extremely proud of,” said Clark Campbell, General Manager Experiential Marketing Volkswagen of America, Inc. “The Beetle GRC cars, with Scott and Tanner behind their wheels, have proven themselves a champion, and a fan-favorite. I would also like to thank the organization behind the Red Bull Global Rallycross Championship. It is not an easy task to stage these events, but the increased viewership and media attention demonstrate that GRC is a series to be taken seriously, and one we are proud to be a part of.”
