It’s no secret that you’re in for a fun time when you slip behind the wheel of a new Volkswagen vehicle! And now that summer is in full swing, we know you’ll be hitting the road to soak up that fun with friends and family. However, we want to remind you that you and your passenger’s safety is a huge priority for us. This is why we want to dedicate this week’s blog to reminding/ refreshing you of important summertime driving safety tips. Below you find information and tips on how to prepare your vehicle for your road trip and what to avoid to prevent any danger on the road. Before You Hit The Road: 

  • Check for recalls on your vehicle 
  • Service your vehicle to avoid a breakdown down the road
  • Review your owner’s manual to really know your vehicle 
  • Plan your travel route, this includes research for rest areas, food, or even hotels

Vehicle Maintenance Checklist:

  • Battery
  • Lights
  • Cooling system 
  • Fluid levels 
  • Belt and hoses
  • Wiper blades
  • A/C unit
  • Floor mats 
  • Tire pressure and tread levels

Update What’s Inside Your Vehicle: 

  • First aid kit
  • Flashlight
  • Flares and a white flag
  • Jumper cables
  • Tire pressure gauge
  • Jack (and ground mat) for changing a tire
  • Work gloves and a change of clothes
  • Basic repair tools and some duct tape (for temporarily repairing a hose leak)
  • Water and paper towels for cleaning up
  • Nonperishable food, drinking water, and medicines
  • Extra windshield washer fluid
  • Maps
  • Emergency blankets, towels, and coats
  • Cell phone and charger

Once On The Road:

  • Stay Alert: keep your gas tank close to full,  plan enough time to stop to stretch, get something to eat, return calls or text messages, and change drivers or rest if you feel drowsy. 
  • Avoid risky behavior: Do not text or drive distracted, obey speed limits, ALWAYS drive sober
