\Volkswagen Andretti Rallycross drivers Scott Speed and Tanner Foust had yet another successful race weekend when they took the track during the Summer X Games. Speed took home his second gold medal in a row when he drove home first place at this year’s race in his No. 41 SHARK WEEK Volkswagen Beetle GR. Throughout the race, he was easily one of the quickest drivers as he won the pole in his heat race and cake back from third in the final to end in first place.
“The final race was the most gratifying of my career from the fact that it took so much work, not just from myself, but from the entire Volkswagen Andretti Rallycross team,” said Speed. “Ideally it would have been nice to just go through Turn 1 on the inside and just check away from the field, but that didn’t happen. I’d much rather win X Games gold that way. It was a fight and when you are able to close on the win after such competition it is an incredible feeling. I’m sure the show for the X Games fans was amazing. I know I can’t wait to get home and watch it.”
Speed’s teammate Tanner Foust came was the fastest in the practice run, but wound up in third during his heat race due to a controversial penalty. In his final, poor track visibility ended up landing him in a fifth place finish.
“This track was entirely different from Ft. Lauderdale, and further demonstrated the speed and versatility of the Beetle GRC,” said Foust. “The dust was eventually the demise of the No. 34 podium hopes. In qualifying we had an issue navigating the track, which only became more difficult as we fell back in the field during our heat race and the final. I’m super happy for the team and Scott (Speed) for walking away with his third gold medal.”

Construction is underway to add a mass expansion to the Volkswagen Chattanooga manufacturing facility which has been designed to accommodate the production of a new mid-SUV. In addition to the mass expansion, a new North American Engineering and Planning Center is being opened in the area. A new study from the University of Tennessee Center of Business and Economic Research (CBER) has estimated that the projects will add an additional $375 million in income to the area through the creation of around 9,800 jobs.
The construction to these expansions began back toward the beginning of the year and Volkswagen expects the project to be completed by the end of next summer, production of the new mid-size SUV will begin by the end of 2016.
“The findings in the CBER study demonstrate that the incentive package recently passed by the Tennessee legislature will result in an economic growth multiplier of several times the state’s investment,” said David Geanacopoulos, Executive Vice President for Public Affairs and General Counsel, Volkswagen Group of America, Inc. “We would like to thank Gov. Bill Haslam and Economic and Community Development Commissioner Randy Boyd for their leadership in fostering a business environment within Tennessee that is mutually-beneficial for the state and local economy as well as for companies like Volkswagen that have operations in the state.”

Volkswagen has announced that they’ve bested themselves by creating a comprehensively reworked version of their famous W12 engine and presenting it as their new 2.0-liter turbo four.
The new W12 engine has stepped up its game with all the latest powertrain technology while keeping the same arrangement and the same 6.0-liter displacement. The list of upgrades includes a new TSI system, a pair of new twin-scroll turbochargers, APS-coated cylinders, a new cooling system, active engine mounts, cylinder deactivation and a stop/start system.
With all the upgrades, the engine will now produce 600 horsepower and 664 pound-feet of torque, making it more powerful than other luxury model’s 4.0- liter twin-turbo V8. According to Volkswagen, in the right application, the new twelve-pot could deliver 0-62 times of under four seconds and a top speed in excess of 186 miles per hour.

Volkswagen Says Happy Mother’s Day
With Mother’s Day taking place this weekend, Volkswagen is reminding everyone to say a big Thank You to your mom for everything that she does for you. This sentiment is reflects in a new spot that the automaker released showing that it does not matter how you say it, just that it comes from the heart.
In the advertisement we see a little girl picking flowers in a garden and then removing all of the petals and carrying them off to another location. We see her repeat the process over and over until it is shown that she is bringing the petals to her mom’s car. Inside the car, she proceeds to place the petals so that they are sticking out the the car’s air vents. When her mom enters the car and starts the engine, the vents turn on and release all of the petals, showering her in flowers. This may be a simple, sweet act of a child but the care and consideration she puts into creating this special moment for her mom is what its all about.
